The Hershey Panthers will be defending their home-field for the first timethey go up against the Wood River Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Hershey is headed into their home opener looking to turn things around after opening their season on the road. They fell just short of Gibbon by a score of 17-14 on Friday. The Panthers gained 58 more yards on the day, but it was the Buffaloes that made the best use of them.
Although Hershey took the loss, they still got scores from Landon Kenicutt and Cole Murdock.
Hershey wouldn't let Gibbon keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Hershey can thank Rhodee Hill and Kenicutt for forcing both of them. Kenicutt also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, forcing a fumble and making four total tackles (1.0 for loss).
Even though they lost, Hershey was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 230 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gibbon only rushed for 103.
Meanwhile, Wood River took care of business in their home opener on Friday. They walked away with a 33-20 win over Centura. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Eagles as it put an end to their seven-game losing streak dating back to last season.
Wood River's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Beau Rohrich, who rushed for 125 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.4 yards per carry. Another receiver making a difference was Madden Brabec, who rushed for 48 yards and two touchdowns.
