Softball Recap: Edgewood Has No Trouble Against Madison

Edgewood had won three straight at home, but on Wednesday they bumped their record up to 7-1 to make it four. They were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over the Madison Blue Streaks. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won five matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

As for Madison, they moved to 9-2 with that defeat, which also ended their five-game winning streak. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss they have suffered against Edgewood since April 29, 2022.

For Madison's part, Kara Mekulsia put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off five hits. Mekulsia has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Mekulsia wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Gianna LaMarco, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Edgewood will challenge rival Jefferson Area at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Madison is set to face off against their familiar foe Perry at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Blue Streaks 2.8, the Pirates 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned.
