The South Williamsport Mountaineers were the 47-37 winner over the Bucktail Bucks when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. South Williamsport fell 39-30 to Bucktail on Friday.
South Williamsport's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Abby Akers, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds and three steals, and Ella Moore who scored eight points along with four steals. That was a full 60% of South Williamsport's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
South Williamsport's loss dropped their record down to 6-11. As for Bucktail, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Williamsport will square off against Line Mountain at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully South Williamsport focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Friday. As for Bucktail, they will head out on the road to challenge Neumann Regional Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Neumann Regional Academy is coming into the game with eight straight wins at home, so Bucktail is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum.
