Two dominant backs in Anthony Morgan and Kesean Lafrance are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Falkner Eagles will challenge the Byers Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Friday, everything came up roses for Falkner against Ashland as the team secured a 38-8 win. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Blue Devils recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Falkner to victory, but perhaps none more so than Malakhi Nunley, who rushed for 48 yards and one touchdown.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Falkner was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 201 rushing yards. They are 2-1 when they've run for more than 200 yards.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Falkner's defense and their five sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as five different players picked up one apiece.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Byers faced off against Potts Camp on Friday. The Lions enjoyed a cozy 47-32 win over the Cardinals.
Falkner better keep an eye on Corey Willis Jr.. He was instrumental in Byers' win, throwing for 381 yards and five TDs while completing 72.7% of his passes, and also rushing for 65 yards on only nine carries.
Byers didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Anterrio Guy. Andreco O'Neal was another major factor on D, forcing one fumble and making 12 total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Falkner's record is now 3-4. As for Byers, their record now sits at 5-2.
Everything came up roses for Falkner against Byers in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 54-12 victory. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lions turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
