Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only The Southmont Mounties walked away with it. They slipped by Cascade 22-21 on Friday. The score was all tied up 7-7 at the break, but Southmont was the better team in the second half.
Southmont's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nolan Boyer, who threw for 103 yards and two touchdowns. Aaron Mcmasters was another key contributor, picking up 46 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Despite the loss, Cascade saw an underclassman step up: Dayton Mink rushed for 149 yards and two touchdowns.
The victory makes it two in a row for Southmont and bumps their season record up to 7-5. As for Cascade, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-5 record this season.
Southmont will head out on the road to face off against Linton-Stockton at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Linton-Stockton will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak. Cascade does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
