The Clay City Eels struggled with offensive rebounds on Thursday (the Eastern Greene Thunderbirds had 11 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Clay City took a 35-27 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Thunderbirds. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Clay City in their matchups with the Thunderbirds: they've now lost six in a row.
Loss or not, Clay City got some senior leadership from Megan Jackson and Kailyn Kirkling. Jackson scored eight points, while Kirkling. scored eight points along with seven rebounds and five steals.
Eastern Greene had a senior duo take command as Bianca Wyatt scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and six steals and Mallorie Elliott scored ten points. Wyatt has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Melanie Wyatt, who scored six points along with seven rebounds.
Clay City's defeat dropped their record down to 9-14. As for Eastern Greene, their victory bumped their record up to 13-10.
Clay City does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Eastern Greene's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Spartans at 7:30 p.m. on January 31st. South Knox is coming into the match hot, having won their last 15 games.
