Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hillcrest). They were the clear victors by a 61-37 margin over the Valley View Eagles on Monday. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 39-16.
Hillcrest had a senior duo take command as Zoey Boulware almost dropped a triple-double with 27 points, 12 boards, and nine steals and Zanylah Jackson dropped a double-double with 22 points and ten rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Jackson has scored at least a third of the Trojans' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Chantel Ruffin, who posted four points in addition to five boards and three steals.
Despite the loss, Valley View still got an impressive performance from Meletonga Manu, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and ten rebounds. Annani Morris also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.
Hillcrest's win ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-8. As for Valley View, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-8.
Hillcrest wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 53-8 victory against La Sierra on the 16th. As for Valley View, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 42-37 win against Jurupa Valley on the 16th.
