Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Early County Bobcats, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They took a 28-24 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wildcats. Early County lost against Schley County in their previous head to head back in September, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 30-0 score last time.
Despite the loss, Early County still got an impressive performance from Tycavion Stovall, who rushed for 284 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 9.5 yards per carry. Stovall has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last five times he's played.
Even if they lost, Early County's defense sure didn't make it easy: Schley County's QB was sacked five times before it was all said and done. The heavy lifting was done by Bryce Greene and Chase Harris who racked up four sacks between them.
Schley County's win on Friday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Zayden Walker, who picked up 108 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Walker was no stranger to the big play, cutting upfield for a catch that went for 65 yards. Jay Kanazawa was another key player, having thrown for 315 yards and three touchdowns.
Early County's loss was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 8-5. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 18.0 points per game. As for Schley County, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 13-0.
Early County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Schley County will head out on the road to face off against Bowdon at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The pair have allowed few points on average, (Bowdon: 17.1, Schley County: 15.8) so any points scored will be well earned.
