If the Castle Knights were riding high off their 60-40 takedown of the Boonville Pioneers on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Castle took a hard 70-54 fall against Evansville Memorial on Friday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Castle has scored all season.
Several Knights players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Xander Niehaus, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds. The contest was Niehaus' fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ayden Mcatee, who scored ten points along with nine rebounds.
It was another big night for Tucker Tornatta, who dropped a double-double on 33 points and ten rebounds for Evansville Memorial. Tornatta set a new season high mark in steals with three. Luke Ellspermann was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five rebounds.
Castle now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Evansville Memorial, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Castle will take on Evansville Central at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Evansville Central is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. Evansville Memorial won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Mt. Vernon at 7:00 p.m. on January 6th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in their respective states (Mt. Vernon is ranked 64th in Illinois, while Evansville Memorial is ranked 65th in Indiana).
