La Puente is 2-8 against Edgewood since April of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Warriors will host the Lions at 3:30 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
La Puente was handed an eight-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Friday. They skirted past Workman 6-5. The win continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Lobos: they've now won six in a row.
Jakob Auga made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Auga was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2025.
Auga wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Rene Payeras, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two hits gave Payeras a new career-high.
Meanwhile, Edgewood put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Friday. They never let Pomona get on the board and left with an 8-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won ten games by eight runs or more so far this season.
The result came thanks to Raymond Tafolla's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up ten Ks. Edgewood is undefeated when Tafolla posts eight or more strikeouts, but 7-8 otherwise.
On the hitting side, Ricky Bocanegra was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Edgewood: the team is 7-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Noah Ramirez, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run.
La Puente's win bumped their record up to 2-14. As for Edgewood, their victory bumped their record up to 10-8.
