The University Red Devils will take on the Saint Mary's Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
Saint Mary's will be up against a hot University team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. The Red Devils narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Head-Royce 5-3.

Jett Messenger was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one RBI. University is 2-1 when Messenger posts two or more stolen bases, but 2-4 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Leo Felder, who went 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.
Meanwhile, Saint Mary's hadn't done well against Bishop O'Dowd recently (they were 0-6 in their previous six matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Panthers had just enough and edged out the Dragons 7-6. While the Panthers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Like University, Saint Mary's also got a great game from a two-way player: Lucas Calavita. On the mound, Calavita struck out eight batters over 3.1 innings while giving up four earned runs off three hits. Meanwhile, Damien Nolan tossed 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Those eight strikeouts gave Calavita a new career-high. At bat, Calavita went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI, while Nolan got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run.
In other batting news, Bryce Gilmore and Leo Ramirez did most of the damage at the plate: Gilmore went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Ramirez went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Fletcher Oliver, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Saint Mary's victory bumped their record up to 5-1. As for University, their win bumped their record up to 4-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. University has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Saint Mary's struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
University skirted past Saint Mary's 8-6 in their previous meeting back in March of 2025. Do the Red Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
