Basketball Game Preview: Ballston Spa Scotties vs. Guilderland Flying Dutchmen

Ballston Spa hasn't had much luck against Guilderland recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Ballston Spa Scotties will welcome the Guilderland Flying Dutchmen at 6:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Last Friday, Ballston Spa was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 47-43 to Niskayuna.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jessica Bowens, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine boards. That's the most points she has posted since back in November of 2023. Mallory Sprissler was another key player, putting up eight points along with 12 rebounds and four steals.

Even though they lost, Ballston Spa smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 12 consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, after a string of six wins, Guilderland's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They received a blow as they fell 68-50 to Shenendehowa. While losing is never fun, the Flying Dutchmen can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 95th, while the Plainsmen are ranked 20th).

Ballston Spa's defeat dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Guilderland, their loss dropped their record down to 7-5.

Ballston Spa didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Guilderland in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, but they still walked away with a 68-64 win.
