West Adams has won five straight games at home, while Northridge Academy has won five straight on the road dating back to last season, but those streaks won't matter much on Friday. The West Adams Panthers will host the Northridge Academy Pumas at 7:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
West Adams is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They took their match with ease, bagging a 59-29 win over Larchmont Charter. 59 seems to be a good number for the Panthers as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of points in their previous game.
West Adams got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Zolah Mcdonald out in front who posted 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashley Lopez-Merida, who earned 14 points.
Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Northridge Academy over Vaughn in every quarter on their way to victory two weeks ago. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Northridge Academy blew Vaughn out of the water with a 61-17 final score. The Pumas have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine contests by 20 points or more this season.
West Adams better focus on containing Janelle Estrella and Haylin Hernandez as the pair were huge in Northridge Academy's win. Estrella dropped a triple-double with 12 points, 12 boards, and ten steals, while Hernandez dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Hernandez a new career-high in steals (six). Another player making a difference was Jennalyn Gerona, who scored eight points along with ten boards and six assists.
Northridge Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 42 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.
Northridge Academy is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 17.3 points over those games. West Adams' victory bumped their record up to 10-7.
West Adams barely slipped by Northridge Academy in their previous meeting back in February of 2020, winning 50-49. Will West Adams repeat their success, or does Northridge Academy have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
