The McCutcheon Mavericks will face off against the Logansport Berries at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. McCutcheon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
McCutcheon's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They blew past Hamilton Heights 14-0. The Mavericks have beaten the Huskies the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Huskies has come to flipping the script.
The team relied heavily on Jake Winger, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April.
McCutcheon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hamilton Heights only posted an OBP of .111.
Meanwhile, Logansport hadn't done well against Lafayette Central Catholic recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Berries sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 win over the Knights.
Kuper Jones spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Logansport let Taylor Albright and Braylon Ritchie run wild. Albright went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run, while Ritchie went 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. That triple was Albright's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Bryson Herr, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.
Logansport's victory bumped their record up to 14-8. As for McCutcheon, their win bumped their record up to 13-7-1.
McCutcheon came out on top in a nail-biter against Logansport when the teams last played back in May of 2024, sneaking past 4-2. Do the Mavericks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Berries turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
