The Gretna East Griffins's three-game losing streak came to an end on Friday. They took down Benson 50-35. For Gretna East, this counts as revenge for the 56-37 loss Benson walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2023.
Ahmani Klabunde and Mckenzie Lewis certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Klabunde scored seven points along with eight assists and five steals, while Lewis scored eight points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
Benson struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Gretna East's victory bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Benson, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gretna East will take on Omaha Central at TBD on Saturday. Omaha Central presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Gretna East in Nebraska (Omaha Central is ranked 26th, while Gretna East is ranked 89th). As for Benson, they the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Bellevue East at 3:00 p.m. on January 20th. Bellevue East and Benson are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
