Softball Recap: Chadron Comes Up Short

Chadron dropped down to 4-2 on Tuesday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Scottsbluff Bearcats by a score of 15-14. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bearcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-2 last Saturday.

Cali Hendrickson and Addisyn Gruver did some serious damage despite the final result: Hendrickson went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI, while Gruver went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that Gruver has hit this season.

As for Scottsbluff, they pushed their record up to 5-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. With that victory, they brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.

On Scottsbluff's side, they gave Danielle Watters the start and clearly made the right call: she struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.

At the plate, Kayla Lilley was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Kiera Sarchet was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple.

Chadron has already played their next matchup (against Bayard), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Scottsbluff, they will challenge Alliance on Tuesday.
