The Pilgrim Patriots will head out to square off against the Smithfield Sentinels at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pilgrim's pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so Smithfield's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Things were looking good for Pilgrim after they put the first run on the board on Wednesday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They took a 9-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mt. Hope.

Samuel Shelton and Jack Cirelli did some serious damage despite the final result: Shelton got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs, while Cirelli went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Shelton has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Jacob Chicas-Moore, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base.
Smithfield came out on top against Mt. Hope on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run first inning. The Sentinels blew past the Huskies 11-1. The result was nothing new for the Sentinels, who have now won four matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Smithfield also got a great performance from Luca Simonelli as he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.
On the hitting side, Luke Dwyer was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Gio Esposito also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Smithfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .519. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mt. Hope only posted a batting average of .111.
The win got Smithfield back to even at 4-4. As for Pilgrim, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Pilgrim has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Smithfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Pilgrim beat Smithfield 5-1 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Patriots since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
