Pilgrim has gone 8-2 against Toll Gate recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Patriots will head out on the road to take on the Titans at 1:30 p.m.
Pilgrim is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: South Kingstown, who was ranked second at the time (Pilgrim was ranked 22nd). The Patriots fell 6-1 to the Rebels on Wednesday. The Patriots have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Pilgrim saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Donovan Vermette, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Toll Gate came into Thursday's game having lost ten straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They came out on top against Rogers by a score of 12-7 on Thursday. The Titans' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Brady Fales looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Braeden Geer, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs and two RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Shane Moro also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Toll Gate always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Pilgrim's loss dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Toll Gate, the victory was their first at home , bumping their record up to 2-12.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Pilgrim has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Toll Gate struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 6.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Pilgrim skirted past Toll Gate 5-4 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Do the Patriots have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Titans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
