The Murrieta Valley Nighthawks lost a heartbreaker when they last took the court, but unfortunately for them the defeat they were handed on on Friday was a bit more commanding. They suffered a tough 81-56 defeat at the hands of Vista Murrieta. Murrieta Valley was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Vista Murrieta apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January.
Despite the loss, Murrieta Valley still got an impressive performance from Valerie Lauritzen, who scored 25 points along with seven steals and six rebounds. Lauritzen hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Peyton Axene, who scored 11 points.
Alyssa Newby had a dynamite game for Vista Murrieta, as she made all 6 shots she took from beyond the arc racking up 26 points and 1 assist. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Newby has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jordyn Smith, who scored 12 points along with four steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Murrieta Valley and nudges their season record down to 16-9. As for Vista Murrieta, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-16 record this season.
Murrieta Valley will be playing at home against Chaparral at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Murrieta Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Friday. As for Vista Murrieta, they will head out on the road to square off against Murrieta Mesa at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
