It was a good run, but the Buena Bulldogs unfortunately witnessed the end of their eight-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of Ventura by a score of 54-51. While losing is never fun, Buena can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 115th, while Ventura is ranked 32nd).
Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Mimi Moon, who scored 18 points along with five assists. Another player making a difference was Skye Thomas, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds.
Buena struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Ventura's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jessie Sebek, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds. Kailee Staniland was another key contributor, scoring 19 points along with five assists.
Buena's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-5. As for Ventura, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season.
Buena will be playing at home against Dos Pueblos at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Ventura, they will face off against Chaminade at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Chaminade's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three games.
