It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but University had no problem doing just that on Friday. They put the hurt on The Classical Academy Titans with a sharp 11-1 win. Considering the Bulldogs have won 21 matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Jasi Cole made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over six innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in September.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sydney Goetzel, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Kamzee Kern, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
The victory (which was University's 15th in a row) raised their record to 25-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for The Classical Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 19-8.
Coming up, University will face off against Wellington at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Bulldogs 2.9, the Eagles 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned. The Classical Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
