The Leander Lions will take on the Austin Maroons at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Austin took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Leander, who comes in off a win.
Leander lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Bowie, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's matchup. The Lions put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 14-1 victory on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Lions.
Kylee Arnold made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Arnold was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other pitching news, Scarlett Geurin looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, Emery Ericson was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Rachel Grundei was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Leander always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bowie only posted an OBP of .290.
Meanwhile, Austin unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They came up short against Leander last Thursday, falling 12-4. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it eight in a row.
Everything went Leander's way against Austin in their previous matchup last Thursday, as Leander made off with a 12-4 win. Do the Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Maroons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
