The Ketchikan Kings will head out on the road to face off against the Sitka Wolves on Friday. Ketchikan is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
Ketchikan is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Alaska's top teams: Juneau-Douglas, who was ranked third at the time (Ketchikan was ranked 13th). The Kings fell just short of the Crimson Bears by a score of 4-3 on Saturday.
Brady Kline spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits.
At the plate, Ketchikan saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Charles Kroscavage, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sitka). They blew past Juneau-Douglas 15-2 last Saturday. With that win, the Wolves brought their scoring average up to 6.7 runs per game.
Caleb Calhoun made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. He is becoming a predictor of Sitka's success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is undefeated (and 2-8-1 when he doesn't). Calhoun was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2025.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Olen Weathers, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Fisher Steinson, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Sitka always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .565. They are 2-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Ketchikan's defeat dropped their record down to 5-12. As for Sitka, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-8-1.
Ketchikan skirted past Sitka 7-6 when the teams last played on May 2nd. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Kings since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
