Albuquerque extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping them down to 5-7. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the Albuquerque Academy Chargers. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bulldogs of the 11-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2025.
Andre Martin was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those stolen bases marked the first that he has snagged this season. Roman Viscarra was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
As for Albuquerque Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 8-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since April 11, 2025.
On Albuquerque Academy's side, Thomas Whitten and Aiden Schum were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Whitten tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Schum tossed 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Whitten has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Whitten went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI, while Schum went 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Brian Valdez looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Jace Gabaldon, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
Looking ahead, Albuquerque will be playing at home against Valencia at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Albuquerque Academy, they will face off against Rio Rancho at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Rams' pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so the Chargers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
