Basketball Recap: Lake Norman Charter Falls Despite Big Games from Braden Wilkie and Langston Holder

Lake Norman Charter lost against Concord back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Lake Norman Charter Knights fell 75-67 to the Concord Spiders. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 393rd, while the Spiders are ranked 184th).

Langston Holder and Braden Wilkie certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Holder went 5 of 6 on his way to 21 points and six assists, while Wilkie went 5 for 10 on his way to 15 points in addition to six steals and five boards. The dominant performance gave Wilkie a new career-high in steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Smith Iii, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 14 points and six rebounds.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Lake Norman Charter was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Kyzen Coleman was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 22 points and 12 boards for Concord. Coleman is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last three games he's played. Tyvonta Rushmeyer was another key player, putting up 13 points and seven steals.

This is the second loss in a row for Lake Norman Charter and nudges their season record down to 2-6. As for Concord, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-1.

Lake Norman Charter will take on Northwest Cabarrus in a holiday battle at at 7:30 p.m. on December 20th. Lake Norman Charter is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 66 points per game this season. As for Concord, they will welcome West Rowan at 7:30 p.m. on December 20th. Concord also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 70 points per game.
