Chase County extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping them down to 1-5. They lost 17-2 to the Wray/Yuma Eagles. That's two games in a row now that the Longhorns have lost by exactly 15 runs.
Chase County saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Violet Sparrow, who went 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That hit was Sparrow's first of the season.
As for Wray/Yuma, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-7 record this season. Considering they have won six matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
On Wray/Yuma's side, Priscylla White was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. White was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Danyelle Davis and Lauren Gdanitz did most of the damage at the plate: Davis went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs, while Gdanitz went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, two doubles, and one triple. Those two doubles gave Gdanitz a new career-high. Gemma Oestman was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chase County will challenge Hershey at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.9 runs per game on average), something the Longhorns will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Wray/Yuma, they will take on Valley at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Vikings have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.92 runs per game on average), something the Eagles will no doubt try to take advantage of.
