Aptos and Soquel are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2023, but likely not for long. The Mariners will venture away from home to take on the Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Aptos is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season.
Harbor hit Aptos with a six-run seventh inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Mariners fell 7-2 to the Pirates. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Mariners couldn't push the score so high this time.
Aptos saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dylan Bergh, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Soquel had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They never let the Cougars get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. The Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matchups by seven runs or more this season.
Jake Escalante made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2025.
In other pitching news, Dylan Hull looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Hudson Summerrill was incredible, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Brady Downs was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one RBI.
Soquel kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive contests.
Soquel's record now sits at 15-3. As for Aptos, their loss dropped their record down to 10-5.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Aptos hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .318. However, it's not like Soquel struggles in that department as they've averaged .359. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Aptos skirted past Soquel 8-6 in their previous meeting back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mariners since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
