Northwestern is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They came out on top against Boynton Beach by a score of 51-39. Northwestern's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jade Yacinthe, who went 7-for-11 on her way to 16 points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals. The dominant performance gave Yacinthe a new career-high in steals. Terriyah Montgomery was another key player, putting up ten points along with seven boards and six assists.
Northwestern smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in five consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Mater Lakes Academy, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They managed a 58-54 victory over Barron Collier on Thursday.
Mater Lakes Academy found their leader in sophomore Vanessa Vancott, who shot 5-for-8 from downtown and dropped a double-double with 29 points and 11 rebounds. Vancott's evening made it 26 games in a row in which she has scored at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Mya Glover, who went 6-for-14 en route to 18 points and five boards.
Northwestern's win was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 21-4. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 29.2 points. As for Mater Lakes Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-9 record this season.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Northwestern has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 28.8 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Mater Lakes Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 28 boards.
