The Cape Fear Colts scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They took their contest at home with ease, bagging a 77-43 win over Douglas Byrd. That looming 77-43 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for Cape Fear yet this season.
Damien Gary was a one-man wrecking crew for Cape Fear as he scored 15 points along with nine assists and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Connor Moore, who scored 14 points along with four steals.
Douglas Byrd's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tavon Alexander, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds. That's the first time this season that Alexander scored 15 or more points. Renmari Willis was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Even though they lost, Douglas Byrd smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cape Fear only pulled down eight offensive rebounds.
The victory makes it two in a row for Cape Fear and bumps their season record up to 6-8. As for Douglas Byrd, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-16.
Cape Fear will be playing at home against Purnell Swett at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Douglas Byrd, they will head out on the road to challenge South View at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. South View presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Douglas Byrd in North Carolina (South View is ranked 234th, while Douglas Byrd is ranked 656th).
