Baseball Game Preview: San Leandro Pirates vs. San Lorenzo Grizzlies

For the second straight game, San Leandro will face off against San Lorenzo. The Pirates will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Grizzlies at 4:00 p.m. The timing isn't great for San Leandro: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while San Lorenzo has snatched up six consecutive wins on the road.

Having struggled with six defeats in a row, San Leandro turned things around against San Lorenzo on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out the Grizzlies 5-4.

San Leandro got a great performance from Sam Linnevers as he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. The Pirates are 4-1 when Linnevers allows two or fewer hits, but 3-5 otherwise.

At the plate, Lorenzo Charles was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. What's more, he posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Stanley Acevedo, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

San Lorenzo's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 11-2. As for San Leandro, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 7-6.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. San Leandro has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like San Lorenzo struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.7 strikeouts.
