The Mt. Carmel Sundevils's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They lost to Escondido at home by a decisive 43-25 margin. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Mt. Carmel has scored all season.
Mt. Carmel's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kiyanna Ellis, who scored two points along with 12 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Mt. Carmel smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Escondido only pulled down six offensive rebounds.
Escondido found their leader in underclassman Anaya McGlory, who almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds. McGlory hasn't dropped below two steals for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Naomi Gutierrez, who scored 13 points along with five steals.
Mt. Carmel's defeat dropped their record down to 6-16. As for Escondido, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-10.
Mt. Carmel won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. on January 27th. Hoover will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive. Escondido will take on the Jaguars at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
