The University Prep Panthers had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.2 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Wednesday. They came out on top against Weed by a score of 56-46. That's another feather in the cap for University Prep, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Weed's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Renaissance Johnson, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. The game was Johnson's 13th in a row with at least ten points. Alayja Oliver was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with three steals.
University Prep's win bumped their record up to 12-1. As for Weed, their loss dropped their record down to 10-3.
University Prep won't have much time to rest: their next game is against McKinleyville at 12:30 p.m. on December 28th. McKinleyville will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 260th, while University Prep is ranked 85th). Weed's road trip will continue as they head out to face Modoc at 9:30 a.m. on December 28th. Hopefully Modoc focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 27 on Wednesday.
