The Xavier Prep Saints suffered their closest defeat yet this season on Tuesday. They fell just short of Shadow Hills by a score of 56-54. While losing is never fun, Xavier Prep can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 232nd, while Shadow Hills is ranked 83rd).
Despite the loss, Xavier Prep still got an impressive performance from Amoree Ferrel, who scored 29 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Ferrel has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Rosalee Gutierrez, who scored 11 points along with six rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Shadow Hills to victory, but perhaps none more so than Victoria Hyatt, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and six blocks. Hyatt is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Skylah Archer, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Xavier Prep and nudges their season record down to 16-5. As for Shadow Hills, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 15-3.
Xavier Prep will be playing in front of their home fans against Palm Springs at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Shadow Hills, they will head out on the road to square off against Palm Desert at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Palm Desert will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
