Softball Recap: Northeast Wins Going Away Against Madison

Northeast got themselves on the board against Madison on Thursday, but Madison never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 20-0 margin over the Panthers. The result was nothing new for the Bearcats, who have now won five matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Mallori Hankins and Olivia Cross made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Hankins tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Cross tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. At bat, Hankins went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Cross went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Melia Gittemeier was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. Those hits marked the first that she has got this season. Another player making a difference was Brooklee Harrison, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.

Northeast has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for Madison, they are on a 23-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-10.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Northeast will square off against La Plata at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Madison, they will face off against Bevier at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
