The Classical Lady Purple/Athena are taking a road trip to square off against the Mt. Pleasant Kilties at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Mt. Pleasant took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Classical, who comes in off a win.
Classical is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by an 18-9 margin over Juanita Sanchez Complex on Monday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Lady Purple/Athena.
Marlowe Warren made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Warren was also big at the plate, earning two RBI and two runs. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Classical got a massive performance out of Eli Ozbek, who went 2-for-4 with five RBI and one double. Oscar Charlesworth was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.
Mt. Pleasant might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 9-3 to Central Falls, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Kilties have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Randy Rosario Velez was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one RBI. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played. Omar Ortega also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Mt. Pleasant's defeat dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Classical, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Classical has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Mt. Pleasant struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Classical got the 'W' when the teams last played two weeks ago against Mt. Pleasant by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lady Purple/Athena since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
