The Chavez Titans will head out to take on the Kennedy Thunderbirds at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Chavez is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Chavez managed to slip by Wasco the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Titans came up short against the Tigers on Thursday, falling 10-1. The Titans' defeat signaled the end of their eight-game winning streak.
Julian Villarreal was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. What's more, he gave up only three walks, the fewest he's had since back in April.
At the plate, Jacob Sixtos was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run. Another player making a difference was Benji Perez, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Kennedy entered their tilt with Legacy Christian Academy on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the Lions. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Thunderbirds have posted since March 1st.
Kennedy's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jordan Palomo, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
Chavez's loss dropped their record down to 17-5. As for Kennedy, their victory bumped their record up to 8-11.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Chavez hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .320. However, it's not like Kennedy struggles in that department as they've averaged .319. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Chavez beat Kennedy 3-0 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Do the Titans have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Thunderbirds turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
