Grant extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping them down to 4-19. They lost 20-1 to the Cordova Lancers. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Lancers this season, with their most recent loss being a 12-0 defeat back in March.
As for Cordova, their record is now 9-14-1. With that victory, they brought their scoring average up to 6.6 runs per game.
For Cordova's part, Nathan Tran and Evan Nelson made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Tran tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Nelson pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Tran also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Cordova is 4-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-13-1 otherwise. At the plate, Tran went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Nelson went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most runs Tran has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Cordova let Levi Nyberg and Chase Morton run wild. Nyberg fired off six RBI, three doubles, and two runs while going 5-for-5, while Morton got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. Nyberg has become a key player for Cordova: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-14-1 otherwise. Landon Gaskill was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Looking ahead, Grant will venture away from home to challenge McClatchy at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Lions' pitching crew has only allowed 2.3 runs per game this season, so the Pacers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Cordova, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Antelope at 4:00 p.m. The Lancers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Titans have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season.
