Baseball Recap: Dekalb Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

DeKalb came out on top against Bellmont on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run fifth inning. The Barons blew past the Braves 9-3. Considering the Barons have won seven games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Bo Minehart got the start for DeKalb and what a start it was: he pitched 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits.

At the plate, Drake Hall was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Dalton Cox, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

The victory (which was DeKalb's third in a row) raised their record to 15-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Bellmont, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-10-1 record this season.

DeKalb will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Leo at 5:30 p.m. As for Bellmont, they have already played their next matchup, a 2-1 victory against Fort Wayne Northrop on the 16th.
