Steve Singleton of Roosevelt is the state Coach of the Year. Burries and Singleton top the MaxPreps
California All-State Team, which includes 30 players on six teams.
Burries was earlier recognized as the MaxPreps California Player of the Year after leading the Mustangs to the Open Division title. In that game, Burries scored 44 points in the 80-60 win, breaking the Open Division record of 35 and tying the mark for the second-most points in a state championship game at any level. He averaged 29.7 points per game and was also a MaxPreps All-American. He recently committed to play collegiately at Arizona.
The record-breaking performance led to Player of the Year honors by the Los Angeles Times, the Southern Section and ultimately MaxPreps. Burries was selected by MaxPreps basketball editor Jordan Divens, who wrote, "Burries took Roosevelt... to new heights,
leading the program to a 66-6 record over the past two seasons and
making the Mustangs a mainstay in the national rankings."
Steve Singleton was named the MaxPreps National Coach of the Year after leading Roosevelt to its first state championship and a No. 2 rankings in the MaxPreps Top 25.
