Basketball Game Recap: Hoover Huskies vs. Independence Patriots

Hoover won the last time they faced Independence, and Ayva Veltri did her part to make sure it happened again. The Hoover Huskies secured a 46-41 W over the Independence Patriots on Thursday thanks in part to Veltri, who went 7 of 14 on her way to 23 points in addition to five rebounds and five steals. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played.

Payshence Lyons also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season. She is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played.

Independence's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Lacey Goodson, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 boards, and Harmony Mills, who posted 17 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. That was a full 41.5% of Independence's points, marking the eighth time in a row she's scored more than a third of the team's points.

Hoover's win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 4-7. As for Independence, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.

Hoover will venture away from home to challenge Sissonville at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Sissonville will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Hoover surely won't give up without a fight. Independence has already played their next match (against PikeView), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
