After losing to the York Dukes the last time they met, the Crete Cardinals decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Crete came out on top in a nail-biter against the Dukes on Saturday and snuck past 38-36.
Several Dukes players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Lainey Portwine, who scored seven points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Portwine has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played. Murfee Nickels was another key contributor, scoring six points along with six rebounds.
Crete's victory bumped their record up to 10-7. As for York, they now have a losing record at 8-9.
Crete is on the road again on Tuesday and plays the Warriors at 6:00 p.m. on January 30th. Schuyler will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings (they are ranked 255th, while the Cardinals are ranked 58th). As for York, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against the at 6:00 p.m.
