Two dominant guards in Gabby Wickham and Ruiqi Liu are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Aptos Mariners will face off against the Menlo School Knights at 2:30 p.m. on Monday.
After a string of four wins, Aptos' good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a serious blow against Santa Cruz, falling 68-35. Aptos has not had much luck with Santa Cruz recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Guin Lines, who scored seven points along with two blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Wickham, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Menlo School beat Sacred Heart Prep 45-39 on Friday. The win made it back-to-back wins for Menlo School.
Menlo School relied on the efforts of Liu, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks, and Karen Xin, who scored 24 points along with three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Xin has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Maren Mulloy, who scored no points along with seven steals.
Aptos' defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-6. As for Menlo School, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-5.
