The Wynot Blue Devils waltzed into their contest on Monday with two straight wins but they left with three. They slipped by Ponca 38-37. The victory was all the more spectacular given Wynot's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 91st, while Ponca is ranked 31st).
Dylan Heine continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 14 points along with two blocks. Andrew Haberman was another key contributor, scoring seven points.
Wynot is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. As for Ponca, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wynot will take on Hartington-Newcastle at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Wynot focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Monday. As for Ponca, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Homer on Friday. Ponca is coming into the game with ten straight defeats at home, meaning Homer will have to defend against a team hungry for a victory.
