Ferndale is on a two-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Dakota is on a four-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Ferndale Eagles will be home for the holidays to greet the Dakota Cougars at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Last Saturday, Ferndale was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 44-38 to Dexter. The loss was Ferndale's first of the season.
Ferndale's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Aaliyah Frost, who scored nine points along with five rebounds, and Iyanna Davis who scored eight points along with 12 rebounds. Davis also grabbed two steals for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Keyanna McGarrell, who scored four points.
Meanwhile, Dakota faced Canton in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Dakota fell just short of Canton by a score of 55-52. The loss was Dakota's first of the season.
Despite the defeat, Dakota got a solid performance out of Samone Andrews, who scored 24 points along with four steals. The contest was Andrews' fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tambre Williams, who scored four points along with 11 rebounds and five assists.
Ferndale's defeat dropped their record down to 3-1. As for Dakota, their loss dropped their record down to 4-1.
Keep an eye on the arc in Saturday's matchup: Ferndale have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 5.8 threes per game. It's a different story for Dakota, though, as they've been averaging only 5.6 threes per game. Given Ferndale's sizeable advantage in that area, Dakota will need to find a way to close that gap.
