Albany is on a six-game streak of home wins, while El Cerrito is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Cougars will host the Gauchos at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Albany is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
Albany's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on Pinole Valley with a sharp 10-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won nine matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Not much got past Drake Barrett, who gave up just three hits to keep Pinole Valley off the board.
On the hitting side, Mikey Richards and Preston McGowen did most of the damage at the plate: Richards went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while McGowen went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. That's the most RBI Richards has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Mori Peskin, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Albany always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pinole Valley only posted an OBP of .227.
Meanwhile, after a string of six wins, El Cerrito's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They fell 6-1 to Saint Mary's. Having soared to a lofty 19 runs in the game before, the Gauchos couldn't push the score so high this time.
Jackson Beebout was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since April 1st.
El Cerrito's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 13-9. As for Albany, their victory bumped their record up to 15-6.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Albany has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .450. However, it's not like El Cerrito struggles in that department as they've averaged .454. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Albany couldn't quite get it done against El Cerrito when the teams last played back in May of 2025 as they fell 3-0. Will the Cougars have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
