Independence is 10-0 against East Mecklenburg since December of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Independence Patriots will be playing in front of their home fans against the East Mecklenburg Eagles at 6:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Independence's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while East Mecklenburg has been banged up by six consecutive losses on the road.
Last Tuesday, Independence was able to grind out a solid victory over Providence, taking the game 66-53. Given Independence's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 16th, while Providence is ranked 153rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Independence's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kaylee Carson, who scored 20 points along with five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Kamryn Kitchen, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, East Mecklenburg suffered a rough 64-40 defeat at the hands of Butler on Friday.
Independence is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. As for East Mecklenburg, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-15 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Independence against East Mecklenburg in their previous meeting back in January as the team secured a 76-35 win. Does Independence have another victory up their sleeve, or will East Mecklenburg turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
