Softball Recap: Taft Has No Trouble Against George West

Taft won against Aransas Pass last Friday with 12 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Tuesday. Everything went the Taft Greyhounds' way against the George West Longhorns as the Taft Greyhounds made off with a 12-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Greyhounds, who have now won six contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

Josette Aparicio was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Taft got a massive performance out of Juliana Alaniz, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Daviana Mendez, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

The victory made it two in a row for Taft and bumps their season record up to 11-7. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 3-11 George West and 4-8-1 Aransas Pass. As for George West, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-11 record this season.

Taft will head out to challenge West Oso at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Taft is facing West Oso at the right time seeing as West Oso is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for George West, they will be playing at home against Aransas Pass at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. George West has given up an average of 12.1 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
