The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for West Charlotte in their matchups with Mallard Creek: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite the loss, West Charlotte had strong showings from Kenya Grier, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and three steals, and Paige Bowman, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and two steals. Bowman has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Aliyah Gray, who scored five points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Mallard Creek found their leader in underclassman My'Asia Young, who almost dropped a double-double on 30 points and nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Young has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Elle Stone, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
West Charlotte's defeat dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Mallard Creek, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-3.
West Charlotte will head out on the road to face off against West Mecklenburg at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. West Charlotte is facing West Mecklenburg at the right time seeing as West Mecklenburg is stuck on a eight-game losing streak. As for Mallard Creek, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Hopewell at 6:00 p.m. The timing is sure in Mallard Creek's favor as the squad sits on nine straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Hopewell has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
