The Centennial Huskies will venture away from home to face off against the Ayala Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Centennial is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games.
In Thursday's Canine Competition, Centennial prevailed. They came out on top against King by a score of 15-10 on Thursday. With that victory, the Huskies brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Joseph Malki looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Devin Bishop, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of AJ Almaraz, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Centennial hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Ayala didn't have quite enough to beat Bonita on Saturday and fell 5-3.
Ayala also got a good showing from Isaac Huver, who pitched four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Huver has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Jaden Valenzuela was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Elijah Duarte, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.
Centennial's record is now 18-7. As for Ayala, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 18-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Centennial has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Ayala struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
