The Dana Hills Dolphins will head out on the road to challenge the Santa Margarita Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Dana Hills has six straight wins, Santa Margarita has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Dana Hills put the finishing touches on their 15th blowout victory of the season on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Capistrano Valley 75-10 on the road. Given Dana Hills' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 119th, while Capistrano Valley is ranked 1163rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Among those leading the charge was Brooklyn Akason, who scored 19 points along with four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Kayla Rice was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Santa Margarita came up short against Rosary Academy on Friday and fell 60-48.
Dana Hills is on a roll lately: they've won 14 of their last 15 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 21-3 record this season. As for Santa Margarita, they dropped their record down to 15-9 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home.
Things could have been worse for Dana Hills, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 53-39 loss to Santa Margarita in their previous matchup back in November of 2021. Can Dana Hills avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
